Aloha! I would like to share with you a little about myself, my history, my experiences and my family.
I grew up in a small fishing village in southern Mexico, working with my father who owned his own construction business. I studied in mechanical engineering and then moved to Ensenada where I worked on Japanese fishing vessels in the late 1980’s. I relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1993, and then later Santa Cruz, California, doing maintenance jobs and home improvement. During that time, some of the businesses I’ve worked for include: tree trimming, fence building, roofing, landscaping, and apple picking.
In 1998, I moved with my wife to her hometown, Honolulu, Hawaii, where I worked for a waterproofing company working on high-rises, repairing re-bar and cement balconies, and water-proofing roofs and parking structures. We moved to San Diego, California in 2000 where I worked in other various construction businesses and eventually got into pipe-fitting, working mainly on the Coronado Hotel. This beautiful 150-year-old hotel, located on Coronado Island, was lavishly built using galvanized pipe and steam to heat the rooms during the cold winter months. A 50 million dollar project, we were responsible for retrofitting this unique plumbing feature into a modern-day air conditioning/heating system.
In 2004, we moved back to Hawaii and finally settled here with our little girl and a boy on the way, to beautiful Waimea on the Big Island. I started with work for a contractor doing various jobs. During this time, I had the unique experience of working with an exceptional house painter who taught me the correct way to paint homes and businesses. This led to other clients who were pleased with my abilities and allowed me to become independent. I opened Big Island Handyman Services in 2006 and have virtually created my clientele by word-of-mouth. Since then, I have done everything from home remodeling to painting, plumbing, roofing, tiling, pressure washing, stump removal, wood flooring, water heater installation, window and door installation, and much more.
